AICC’s Rs. 1,000 crore AICCI scheme for irrigation project scrapped
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Tamil Nadu has scrapped the AICIC scheme for irrigating irrigation projects under its flagship programme.
The state government has announced that AICI will be discontinued from October 2019.
The government said the project was being scrapped due to lack of funds.
The BJP government had earlier announced that it will spend Rs. 2,500 crore on the scheme for water projects.
The project was launched in 2009 to provide water for 1,100 villages in the state.
The AIC CI scheme was announced by the then chief minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu in 2012.
The scheme was set up to provide Rs. 25,000 per unit for irrigation.
The government had planned to install 50,000 LED bulbs across the state by the end of 2020.
In January 2018, the government announced a further Rs. 6,000-crore irrigation scheme.
The BJP had promised that by 2019-20, the total irrigation scheme for the state would be Rs. 11,000 billion.
