Why the Australian Government is selling off its fleet of offshore patrol vessels

AIS vessel tracking has been sold off to a US company.
A spokesperson for AIS said it was not a decision that was taken lightly.
“It is a matter for the company, we do not comment on any personnel matters,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said the AIS vessels were in “extensive use” in the international waters of the Indo-Pacific.AIS has a fleet of eight patrol boats and five patrol vessels.
