By Kim Siewert December 19, 2018 1:07pmThe way you work is a big deal, says Siewart, who runs a nonprofit organization called the Ai Ethics Institute.
“It’s a big part of how we do the work we do,” he said.
Ai Ethics Institute, based in Toronto, helps children and teens with careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
We talk to the kids about their strengths and weaknesses, and tell them that if they have an accident, they’re going to need to get a job that’s safe and secure, said Siewen.
They get to see their parents work, they get to hear about the challenges their parents face, and they get a chance to show them that they can be a good citizen.
The Ai Ethics has seen some success, with its first-ever grantee, a company called Oasis Technology, being chosen for the National Academy of Sciences to help young engineers learn STEM.
Siewert said the nonprofit is also working to make sure young people are given the skills they need to succeed in science and math.
In the case of a STEM-related injury, he said, an accident may result in a lifelong disability or, in some cases, permanent disability.
An injury to the brain can result in severe, lifelong problems, such as dementia, autism and other conditions that can affect a person’s ability to function.
There’s a real need to give kids the tools to do their jobs, and to get to know their peers, Siewer said.
“That’s what we’re really trying to help kids to do,” said Siwert, who is also a board member of Ai Ethics.
I think it’s important that kids learn about what their work is, how to communicate, and that they have a role in society and that society cares about them.
“I think that’s the real heart of the work that Ai Ethics is doing,” he added.
With a $30,000 grant, Ai Ethics also created an app to help teachers make better decisions about how to teach science, math and technology classes.
You can help young people get a better job by being an active member of the community, Siwen said.
We know that people want to be part of the system and we need to be able to give them that information, he added, pointing to the recent national census results.
When kids have a chance, they have opportunities for themselves, Sowart said.
